ISO/IEC 27400
Secure Internet of Things solutions and protect the privacy of the people around them.
ISO/IEC 27400: what it is and why it matters
ISO/IEC 27400:2022 provides guidelines on risks, principles and controls for the security and privacy of Internet of Things solutions. It covers both information security and the protection of personally identifiable information across the IoT lifecycle.
It speaks to the different stakeholders of an IoT system, such as developers, providers and users, because the risks and responsibilities differ for each.

Training, examination and certification are different steps
ISO/IEC 27400 is a guidelines document, and the sources checked describe no organisational certification scheme for it. PECB publishes two personal programmes based on it.
- PECB publishes an ISO/IEC 27400 Foundation course (2 days plus a 1 hour exam) and a Lead Manager course (5 days with the exam on day 5).
- For the Lead Manager exam the PECB handbook describes 80 multiple-choice questions, open book, with a 70% pass mark.
- Credential levels at PECB depend on experience as well as the exam. The Foundation course lists no prerequisites.
Certification bodies set and can change their own exam, eligibility and renewal rules. The details below are what the body publishes; we confirm the current position with you before you enrol.
